ECAJ statement on reinstatement of Randa Abdel-Fattah grant.
In response to the news that Randa Abdel-Fattah who has called for the ‘end of Israel’ had her $870,000 research grant restored by Macquarie University and the Australian Research Council five days before the Bondi massacre, ECAJ President Daniel Aghion said the following:
“It is bad enough that the Australian government’s responses to the surge of antisemitic incitement and behaviour over the last two years has repeatedly failed the test of moral leadership.
“But now it seems that the government is becoming an active enabler of hatred and violence by handing out taxpayer funds to an academic who once tweeted, ‘Congratulations to the people of the Holocaust committing a Holocaust’, and who last year encouraged children as young as ten to parrot hate propaganda calling for an intifada.”
