In early January 2012, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) submitted a written complaint to SBS that the four-part television series The Promise, which it had put to air in November and December 2011, promoted and endorsed racist stereotypes of Jews, in violation of the SBS Codes of Practice. The ECAJ was not the first or only complainant. I was informed by SBS that it received a total of 62 such complaints, an unusually high number for one of their programs. Among the complainants were Senator Glenn Sterle of Western Australia (on 9 December 2012) and the Australian Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants (on 27 December 2011).
