Our organisation, which is the peak national body that represents the Jewish community throughout Australia, welcomes the Australian Government’s initiative in developing such an anti-racism strategy.
The Managing Director of SBS has publicly conceded that if any of the complaints concerning The Promise had been upheld, SBS would have been obliged to cease marketing the series, including the DVD, whether any of the complainants had expressly sought that outcome or not.

In early January 2012, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) submitted a written complaint to SBS that the four-part television series The Promise, which it had put to air in November and December 2011, promoted and endorsed racist stereotypes of Jews, in violation of the SBS Codes of Practice.
The ECAJ reiterates its and the Australian Jewish community's strong opposition to bullying at school on any grounds including sexual orientation, and welcomes any government program designed to counter-act bullying that has the support of victims and educators.
Support from the NSW Community Relations Commission following ECAJ complaints from SBS's airing of The Promise.
