Peter Wertheim and Alex Ryvchin rep­res­en­ted the ECAJ in present­a­tions at the inaugural joint ECAJ and AUJS National Advocacy Summit. Both co-CEOs presented at the Summit in Sydney on 5^th August, and Alex also presented at the Melbourne Summit on Sunday, 19^th August.
The Summit aimed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate on campus for Israel and more broadly.

“The day was out­stand­ing and the par­ti­cipants were fantastic,” reflected Peter Wertheim.

Peter presented two sessions at the Sydney Summit — one about the demo­graph­ic, political and religious profile of the Aus­trali­an Jewish community and the major organ­isa­tions within the community; and the second was a practical exercise during which students took part in sim­u­lat­ing a meeting with a key Aus­trali­an political figure.
Alex’s session focused on the prin­ciples of speech-making (including rhetoric, writing, editing, audience, and delivery), as well as analysing some of the greatest speeches in history. The students had an oppor­tun­ity to craft and deliver their own Gettys­burg addresses on a topic that relates to advocacy on campus.

“Advoc­at­ing for our community at home and abroad is central to the work of the ECAJ and we have made training our students leaders in this area a key priority,” remarked Alex.
“We are delighted to see so many AUJS members willing to stand up and advocate on issues that affect us all as Jews.”
