Interview: ECAJ discusses the Holocaust and right-wing extremism on ABC Radio

On the 76th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by the allies at the end of World War Two, experts and politicians are warning antisemitism continues to increase in Australia. Holocaust denial is also spreading. Both form part of the narrative used by far-right, white-supremacist groups, but they are also incorporating conspiracy thinking about government control through COVID-19 measures.

ECAJ Research Director, Julie Nathan points to terror attacks by such groups and individuals in the US, Germany and New Zealand as a caution about their potential for violence. She says education is key, but Australia must also have effective laws on anti-vilification, and anti-incitement.

Listen to ECAJ Research Director Julie Nathan’s interview with Linda Mottram on ABC Radio PM, starting at 1:20.
