On Sunday, 2 August, ECAJ, NSW JBOD, JCCV and other state and territory roof bodies hosted a webinar to address communal concerns regarding the forthcoming National Census.
We were privileged to be joined by Mark Harding from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
As well as answering general queries such as who came up with the questions that were asked in the Census, he also gave detailed responses regarding two issues that are of specific interest to the Jewish community.
Firstly, in the current climate, how can we be sure it’s safe to fill in our personal details and say that we’re Jewish?
And secondly, why is Judaism not listed as a religion in Question 24 and, given it’s not compulsory to give an answer, why should we say we’re Jewish?
