ECAJ’s response to the Ombudsman’s findings on ABC’s Hamas ‘resilience’ post

Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin said: “Describing rocket attacks by a terrorist organisation as acts of “resilience”, without also stipulating such acts constitute a war crime that endanger both Israelis and Palestinians, is entirely unacceptable. Resilience is a positive virtue, something to be admired and encouraged. We would never see the crimes of ISIS or Al-Qaeda framed in this way. It is language we would expect from Al Jazeera or Iranian state media not our national broadcaster. It serves to glamorise Hamas’s crimes. The fact that the ABC cannot see that even after heavy criticism from communities and other journalists is disturbing.”
