ECAJ calls on Parliament for action on campus antisemitism

ECAJ submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights Inquiry into Antisemitism at Australian Universities.

The ECAJ’s submission repeated its call for a judicial inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities, saying:

We remain of the view that a judicial inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities is necessary and urgent for all the reasons set out in our submission to the Senate Inquiry. However, in the interim we seek to improve the circumstances of Jewish staff and students at universities by assisting your Committee with practical recommendations for immediate adoption.

The ECAJ’s submission is divided into the following sections:

  1. The contemporary reality of antisemitic activity at Australian universities
  2. University frameworks for preventing and responding to, antisemitism at universities,
including laws, rules, policies and other measures to protect the safety and wellbeing
    of students, staff and academics
  3. The effectiveness and adequacy of those frameworks
  4. The support provided to students, staff and academics experiencing antisemitism at
